First Swim in Months

Yesterday was my first swim in a long time. Travis, Sam & I headed to the pool for lap swim at noon. Our plan was for us to alternate swimming and the non swimming person would sit with Sam. I jumped in first. I was tired by the time I completed 50 meters. Breathing was the biggest issue. This should come back shortly though. I did a couple of really slow 100 meter repeats then some 50 meter repeats.

I need to concentrate on keeping my elbow high during the pull. I worked on this for at least 1/2 of the time I was in the water and I think I could tell that I was more efficient and pulling more water.

Yesterday was also Sam's 1 month birthday! My how the time flies. Tomorrow I am going to a breastfeeding class. We'll see how much weight she has gained in the past two weeks and how much she is eating at a normal feeding.

Travis starts his new job today so Sam & I are on our own. Exciting Stuff!

Not doing a very good job of posting

Ok, so I need to get better at updating my blog. This is on my to do list for the next 6 weeks while I am still at home with Sam.

This morning we ran our first 5K as a family. It was a part of our church's summer festival. We were the first stroller to cross the finish line. 1st place for my little cutie! We came in around 27:20 which is slow but not too bad because we are not fast by any stretch of the imagination. We hung out and watched the kid's fun run afterwards...some of those little ones run faster than I do!

The rest of my training has been going pretty well. I jumped into a 12 week sprint training plan with the goal of completing my first tri of the season on 8/23. The workouts are pretty intense.

I am also itching to get back into the pool. I've searched high and low to see how quickly you can return to swimming after having a baby. Finally, I decided to just call the Dr. and ask. The nurse said she had never been asked that question before. Wow - I can't believe that. Anyway, she said as long as I feel like I am healed up (particualrly from the tearing & stitches) it would be fine for me to head back to the pool at 4 weeks. That equals this coming Sunday....as in tomorrow!!!! I'm headed to the pool. We'll see how bad my swimming fitness is.

Here is my training this past week:
7/19 - Day off!
7/20 - Run - Time: 50:30, Distance: 5.21 miles
7/21 - Bike (Threshold) Time: 1 hour, Distance 15.92 miles, Pace: 15.9 mph
10 min warm up 22 min
7/22 - Run (Tempo) Time 32:16, Distance 3.58, Speed: 6.6 mph 12 minutes of tempo & 32
minutes total
7/23 - Bike (Taco Ride http://tacoride.com/) Time: 1:30, Distance 20 miles,
7/24 - Run (Foundation Run with Strides) Time: 40:30, Distance: 4.48 miles, Speed 6.7mph
5 min warm up then 25 min foundation run. Finished with 6x20 sec strides. Cool down
for 6 minutes
7/25 - Run (church 5K) Time: 27:20, Distance: 3.13 miles, Pace: 8.48

Thursday night we went to Kris & Tracy's. Kris watched Sam while Travis & I rode the taco ride with Tracy. We had a really good time. You bike for 10 miles & then eat tacos and have a beer or margarita at the turn around point then ride back to the start in the dark. We have to do this again. I have a link to the ride above in my weekly training details so check it out.

Yesterday I biked outside with Travis for the first time in 9 months! It felt so good to be out and about on the bike. We rode about 13 miles averaging 15.3mph while my mom watched Sam. It felt great! I can't wait until we have Sam on the bottle so we can find a sitter and do it again.

Today Travis did his second tri of the season. He did great - sat a PR for the course by almost 10 minutes. He rocked the bike course! Sam, my mom & Krissy all went along to cheer him on.

On the baby front, we can't figure out why she is so gassy. Supposedly breast fed babies are supposed to have less gas! After almost every feeding she is fussy and curling herself into a big ball. I've read a bunch of stuff, evidentally I need to burp her way more often while feeding and I possibly need to back off the minimal caffiene and dairy products I am consuming. Hopefully tonight goes better than last night. 4 hours of sleep isn't going to cut it. Travis just went to Babies R Us and picked up some Mylicon drops. We are trying them at bedtime.
